0.1.0 - It's been...
Yes, I realised my post title numbering system was flawed, yes I went and retroactively fixed it, no it still probably doesn't make sense to anyone apart from me, I have made my peace with that.
One week kind of down then; certainly most of a week, and if I want to stay sane and run a Monday-Sunday week count, then this is the end of week 0/the start of week one. As I said at the start, not every album or band I listened to is going to get a braindump blog post dedicated to them, some might just get a few words of explanation and we will move on. I have a lengthier post in the chamber but I am saving that until next week.
So, at the end of week zero, here's where the leaderboard stands:-
I've listened to 24 albums in 5 days; at this pace, Ian Wang will have been handily disposed of by August and I could really push myself and try and lap him and get to 2,000 as a flex. I think we all know this rate isn't sustainable though. Nice to have a bit of a headstart.
I listened to Achtung Baby while cleaning out our understairs cupboard with Catherine. I have no strong feelings on U2, she likes them though, and our cupboard is now far better organised.
It snowed here in Sheffield last night, and so when I woke up at 6am this morning because anxiety demons sent me apocalypse dreams, I decided to listen to albums which felt snowy. Fleet Foxes is a lovely album and White Winter Hymnal is an unofficial Christmas Carol for me. 50 Words for Snow I've never listened to before; I love early Kate Bush and I had heard that late Kate Bush was very weird; this album is very weird. I don't know what to think about it, and might have to listen to it again (in 2026 when such an exercise isn't taking valuable minutes I could be using listening to other albums) to form an opinion besides "it was odd, there's a song on it where a guy just says 50 different words for snow while Kate Bush cheers him on". Stadium Arcadium was literally just because Snow (eh oh) is on there and I forgot it was a double album. I'll find a space later to talk about the Chilli Peppers and how I feel about them, but two hours of late stage Chilli Peppers this morning was very close to as much as I could handle.
Finally, Another Level by Blackstreet I listened to because we went to do karaoke (a guilty pleasure of mine, so I was very excited to subject our friends to me singing) for our friend Rachel's birthday. We sang No Diggity together, which is one of my all time karaoke favourites, and its been stuck in my head. I don't listen to a lot of R&B but this was an entirely pleasant listen apart from the interminable skits, interludes, and at one point they all have their mother's come on the record to say how proud they are of them. The track count says 19, so I am recording it as such, but I'll be damned if there's more than 11 songs on this album.
That's it, back to work for the first time in two weeks tomorrow. I am filled with joy.
